My Thoughts:
I was really looking forward to The Murder Complex, it
looked a bit darker than most YA dystopian out there and it seemed a bit
different, but honestly there was something that was just missing for me. The story
was action packed and kept my attention but, I wanted more depth, and more
background. The plot just felt like it needed to be fleshed out a bit more but,
overall the plot kept me reading the story and I am curious about the next book
and how the series is going to continue.
Meadow Woodson is not your average 15 year old girl, but the
world she is living in is not your average world. The government controls the
state of Florida, with the murder complex, reducing the population daily.
Meadow has been trained by her father since she was a young girl to be able to
fight for herself and always survive. Zephyr James is a ward of the state and
all he remembers of his previous life is that he was happy with his parents and
had a great life. But, he can’t remember that he is one of the Murder Complex’s
trained assassins, one of the most important for the program.
Meadow was so tough she definitely reminded me of characters
like Sabra from Blood Red Road and Lynn from Not a Drop to Drink. But, at the
same time there was just something that she lacked that the other 2 characters
had that would have made me give this one a higher rating. Everything moved too
quickly, there was just something more that I wanted to see from Meadow and
Zephyrs characters to make this book that much more that I just didn’t get.
Overall, The Murder Complex gives you exactly what the
summary describes but, the plot just didn’t have enough depth and I wanted more
story. At times it moved a bit too fast but, it kept me glued to the pages and
I am definitely wanting to continue the series and find out where the story
goes next.
